What have I been up to lately...hmmm, let me see…well, we are getting ready for Christmas. All the presents are wrapped under the “Eeeeee”. I really like taking the bows off of the packages when momma and daddy are not looking, and I LOVE the ornaments on the “Eeeeeee”! Especially the shiny ones!

I have also been doing a lot of arts and crafts with momma and dada. We made a gingerbread house over the weekend and we made “man-man’s” tonight!

I can’t wait for Santa to come! I hope he brings me a Dora kitchen and a girly sleeping bag for the cabin! Merry Christmas everyone!

First Steps!!!!!!

Addie took her first steps on her own yesterday! Dave and I were in the living room with her yesterday afternoon and she stood up and took 4-5 steps on her own before falling! Since then, she’s done it on her own a few times over the weekend. Dave caught a few steps on video. I am so glad Dave and I were both home together to see it when it happened! Finally...it took 17 months but we are finally getting there!

The Toddler Days

What have I been up to lately? Hmmmm...well, I LOVE being a toddler! I finally figured out that my finger can go up my nose! Momma thinks daddy secretly taught me that! I discovered that if I don’t like something mommy and daddy feed me, I will just wait until they aren’t looking and then I slip it to Baxter! He’ll eat ANYTHING! My favorite thing to do is get the TV remote while mommy is busy in the kitchen and select “On Demand”. I have come very close to purchasing several movies all by myself! I also like pushing the buttons on the TV until the screen goes to snow. When momma tells me “no”, I just push her away with my hand and shake my head no. Yep, I’ve become a little bossy!

I have started to associate certain things together and figure out how they work. Hand me my brush and I will try to brush my hair, hand me my toothbrush and I will attempt to brush my teeth, and give me a shoe and I will try to put it on my foot! I love exploring and these days I am into just about everything! Momma caught me trying to figure out how to open the child lock on the bathroom door the other day!

I love to be read to. My favorite book lately is my new Dora Halloween book with pop down tabs. Mommy reads to me everyday. I could sit and let her read me books for hours! I can’t wait for Halloween! I am not sure what I am going to be this year, but momma saw a very cute pink Piglet costume the other day! I think we are taking grandma to “Boo at the Zoo” when she comes to visit me next month from Hawaii!

I got my first “big girl” haircut today! After countless times of mommy trimming my bangs with the dull scissors from the junk drawer, I finally talked mommy and daddy into taking me to the kids cool haircut shop at Polaris called “Cookie Cutters”! Deena cut my hair! I even got to sit in the fun airplane seat and I watched Dora on the TV as she cut my hair! Mommy and daddy got a certificate with my picture and hair for my baby book. I can’t wait to go back!

Dave and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary this past weekend. We had an AMAZING dinner at Bel-Lago! It sits on the water of the Hoover Reservoir located in Westerville. Despite how elegant the inside of the restaurant was, we decided to sit in the outer edge enclosed sun room which overlooked the water. They had the windows open (see pic below) so you could look out over the water at all of the boats coming by. I can’t wait to go back! 2011 Ohio State Fair

We took Addie to the fair last weekend. It was fun despite the heat. We kept Addie hydrated…she loved mommy’s lemonade shake-up! I packed a wet washcloth in a zip lock bag with ice to help cool her head and neck throughout the day. We got soaked leaving the fair with the storms coming in though. For lunch we had pizza but we couldn’t get out of the fair without daddy getting a fried Twinkie and mommy getting chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick. I must say, after having it, chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick may be an every year thing for mommy at the fair! The petting zoo was a hit and she also LOVED seeing the horses in the horse stable. I took some picks of her and Dave feeding the animals…or as Dave likes to say, it was more like, “Throwing carrots at them!”.

15 Month Check Up

We had Addie’s 15 month pediatrician check-up today. All-in-all she’s a healthy girl aside from the one ear infection we had last month. She’s still not walking on her own yet, but the pediatrician seems to think that will happen within the next few weeks. She can point to her nose when you ask her where her nose is, she can clap when you say “Yay”, she can wave bye-bye, and she can say momma, dadda, “bah-bah” (bottle), bye, hi, backpack, bebe (baby), and today she said duck during bath time. These days she’s been visiting the pool quite often and playing in her sandbox outside.

15 month stats:

Height 33 1/4” (75%tile for age)

Weight: 20lbs 8oz (15%tile for age)

The one issue we have yet to tackle is doing away with the “bah-bah’s”. She will drink from a sip-cup or a straw, but when it’s time for a nap or “night-night” she wants her milk in a “bah-bah”. The other day she fought me for 3 hours and wouldn’t go down for her nap until she got the milk in a bah-bah. Ugh! One more obstacle. The pediatrician said to just quit cold turkey, so we may be in for a long weekend coming up!

The other day Dave and I were having dinner at home together with Addie. Needless to say, Addie won’t sleep much at daycare because of all the noise. On this particular day, on her daycare report sheet it had written down that she only took a 20 minute nap (quite short compared to her usual 1.5-2 hour nap she takes at home). This is what happened at dinner…we have never seen anything like it! I realize sometimes it’s common to get sleepy AFTER a big meal, but never have I seen someone fall asleep WHILE eating a meal!

Westerville Pool Time!

We discovered a really nice community pool over in Westerville last weekend with our friends. We enjoyed it so much we went back again today. They have 2 waterslides, a separate kiddie pool, a lazy river, kids splash areas, and 2 larger pools. It’s fairly inexpensive (considering we are non-residents). Next year Dave and I are thinking about getting a seasonal membership with Addie. I don’t think Addie would have any complaints!

Last night was terrible. I was up at 1:30am rocking Addie outside on the front porch. It was the only thing I could do to somewhat calm her down. This was the first time she has been sick where she would scream and kick when Dave or I would try to hold her. She cried even louder if we tried to lay her down. Poor thing just couldn’t get comfortable. She had a fever and today she was in a puddle of sweat when she woke up from her morning nap. I took her to the pediatrician this morning and she has another double ear infection, ugh! I thought we were past this with summer. I’ve been giving her Children’s Advil every 6 hours and we started antibiotics this afternoon. I made her some Mrs.Grass chicken noodle soup she ate a little of at lunch and she’s finally sleeping.

Last weekend we celebrated our niece Avery’s 4th birthday up in Cleveland. I still can’t believe she’s 4 years old already! I can remember it like it was yesterday…Dave and I were at the cabin with his parents when we got the phone call that Amy was in labor with Avery. I remember holding her in my arms for the very first time. It’s strange to think now that she’s the “big” cousin and not the baby anymore!

“Uh-Oh!” is our new latest vocabulary word. Daddy taught it to her. Anytime Miss Addison drops something it’s usually followed be an, “Uh-Oh!”. I was changing her the other day on her changing table and she had her sippy cup in her hands to keep her occupied as I was changing her diaper. Before I knew it she had thrown it down onto the floor and then looked at me and said, “Uh-Oh!”. Dave and I will have to capture it on video while she’s still saying it. Hopefully I will have some updated pics to post after the holiday weekend. Happy 4th everyone!

Father’s Day

We had a fun Father’s Day weekend with Dave. “Pre-Father’s Day” kicked off Saturday night with camping out in the living room in Addie’s new princess tent! We picked it up for her Saturday at a yard sale…best $5 we have spent yet!

As for daddy’s gifts this year…he finally got his truck mat for the Explorer along with a mini OSU corn hole set he’s been playing with Addie. Daddy’s teaching her early in prep for tailgate season!

Sunday morning (Father’s Day) Tutts spent the morning in bed with daddy watching cartoons while I made a big breakfast. We went to the zoo later in the afternoon. Addie got to go on the train ride and into the petting zoo with daddy for the first time.

What day would be complete without a stop at Greater’s to get ice cream on the way home before dinner. Addie liked daddy’s chocolate ice cream but she LOVED mommy’s strawberry!

Sunday evening we cooked out steaks on the grill for dinner at home. By the end of the day I think everyone was exhausted, but I will let you be the judge…

Strawberry Festival

Dave and I took Addie to the Strawberry Festival today in Troy, OH (just outside of Dayton). It was one of the nicer festivals I have been to and there was strawberry everything! Strawberry jam, strawberry jelly, strawberry butter, strawberry salsa, strawberry shortcake, strawberry cupcakes, strawberry smoothies, strawberry lemonade, strawberry funnel cakes, strawberry doughnuts…well, you get the idea! Mommy’s strawberry slushy was a hit with Miss Addison! Next year, we are off to The Chocolate Festival in Cincinnati!

Goodbyes

It’s been a sad week as I lost my grandfather last week after a long battle with cancer. I miss him terribly. I am so thankful he got to know his great grandaughter from the time she was born through her first year. I will hold his memories close to my heart and one day tell Addison about what great great-grandfather she had. He loved her dearly. I love you grandpa!

Fun in the Sun at the Cabin!

We headed up to the cabin over the weekend to celebrate Memorial Day with family. Unfortunately, with all of the rain we have had the lake was flooded and by Sunday the entire dock had disappeared. We had a nice cookout with family and tutts got to play in the pool with her big cousin, Avery. Addie loves the water! I especially love the pic of her crying…not that I am a mean mommy, it’s just the first time I have taken her pic when she was upset. Check out that pic of Avery outside on the potty, love it! I am pretty sure I have seen a similar pic or two of myself like that when I was little.

Dave had a family work function for OSU at COSI on Sunday. It was fun to take Addie there for the first time. She loved the kiddie water play area, especially the water table! Dave and I got Addie her sandbox last month for her birthday. We finally got a nice weekend with the weather so we decided to head over to Lowes to get some good sand. We put her sandbox on the patio out back with us so she could play. She loved it!

We had our photographer, Erica Snodgrass, do Addie’s one year photoshoot yesterday at Inniswood Gardens in Westerville. It was a beautiful day! There are so many neat little areas to do pictures there. Erica sent a few “sneak peak” pics last night. Stay tuned for the entire spread in a few weeks!

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was bitter sweet this year. It was a beautiful day but Addie was sick. She spiked a temperature the night before of 104.2 degrees. We were up at 3am making a call to the on-call pediatrician as we got her into a cool bath. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep much that night. I think it was a combination of a reaction from her MMR vaccine in addition to a virus. Luckily her temperature broke on Sunday. She was feeling a little better mid afternoon. Dave and Addie bought me a silver heart locket necklace…I can’t wait to put pictures in it. I put it on that day and she wouldn’t stop touching it…she’s actually holding onto it around my neck in the pic below if you look close, haha! Dave brought home lunch from The Cheesecake Factory and later that afternoon when Addie was feeling better we went over to Highbanks Metro Park near our house for a walk. It turned out to be a great Mother’s Day!

This year was my second Mother’s Day. I remember back to my first Mother’s Day last year. Addie was only a few weeks old. I was a nervous new mom recovering from a c-section, but Dave managed to get me out of the house that day and we all went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. It was our very first trip anywhere, other than the pediatrician’s office, with Addie!

Grandma’s Visit

Grandma came all the way from Hawaii last month to visit me and celebrate my first birthday! Grandma spent lots of time with me…she helped with bath time, rocked me to sleep every night, and she took me to do lots of shopping (including a special trip to the Disney store)! Grandma likes to spoil me! I think she’s coming back in the fall to see me again. Maybe the weather will cooperate next visit so I can take grandma to the zoo! Or better yet…if she comes in October we can hit up all of the fun farms for fall festivities! Love you Grandma! xoxoxo

My Addison Grace,

Where has time gone? You are one year old now. It seems like just yesterday when I was in the hospital and they placed your tiny little body in my arms. My heart melted that day as you snuggled up to me. You and I have a very special bond we share, Addison. I have watched you change so much over the past year…your first smile, your first word, your first tooth, and soon you will take your first step. I cherish every moment with you.

Your favorite food is still macaroni and cheese, although tomato soup with grilled cheese has become somewhat popular recently. You love veggies, but fruit isn’t exactly your favorite. You still get excited when “Dora the Explorer” comes on. You said the word “backpack” three times this week when they sang the backpack song on Dora. “Tinker Bell” was your first Disney movie that you ever watched and it remains your favorite, followed by “Tangled”. You love to explore…even if all of your toys are out, you prefer playing with the simpler things such as a zipper or a chip clip. You love the water and bath time is always a hit. You enjoy being rocked at night before bed and you have slept with a nightlight every night since the very day you came home from the hospital. You are, and I think always will be, more ticklish than words can describe!

Looking back, it has been a year full of fun…many holidays with friends and family, celebrating your first birthday, and you even got to go on your first beach vacation. You have grown and changed so much and with each day comes a new adventure.

Miss Addison Grace turned 1 year old on April 21st at 11:20am! We celebrated with a Minnie Mouse birthday party the Saturday prior with our friends and family. Needless to say, there was a lot of pink in our house that day! I made her a Minnie Mouse cake myself from scratch…special thanks to my mom for staying up late with me the night before the party to help me get everything together! Dave and I got Addie her sand box for her 1st birthday, so we are excited to put that out back on the patio with us this summer so she can play. Thank you to everyone who came for making this a special birthday for Addie! We have her 1 year pediatrician appointment tomorrow, so I will post her 12 month post soon. Happy Birthday Addie! XOXO

Ok, well maybe just a bang trim. With Addie’s 1st birthday party this coming weekend, I wanted her to be able to see her cake! We had to get those pesky little bangs out of her eyes so we took her over to the salon to see my lovely hairdresser, Erin Rose! Thanks for the trim, Erin!

Akron Zoo with Grandma and Papa

We had a great weekend with Grandma and Papa at the Akron Zoo and of course with Ames and Kent at Stella's birthday party. It was a fun weekend!!

Addie’s First Zoo Trip

Dave and I had the day off together so we decided to take Addie to the zoo for the first time. We bought an annual zoo pass so we can go anytime with her. She loved looking at all of the animals, especially the polar bears (daddy’s favorite) and the monkeys (mommy’s favorite).
